Nearly there...

So close! But need a few things....

I'm thinking a gold belt, a pouch of some kind and maybe a necklace??

Witchy progress...

After finding the perfect "hair", I woke up early and got it all attached. It looks like several strands of yarn, but is actually all attached in a spiderweb effect! Hard to describe, so here's a pic :

I tried a different way of attaching the hair, basically wrapping the ends in bias binding and stitch them on in rows. I planned ahead of time to make the back of her head black to hide the gaps in the yarn hair - big plus! Loving this angle that shows her eyelashes.... So cute!!

I also added her ruby slippers! I should have done them in fabric before I stitched the legs, but painting them in red then added glitter didn't go too badly.

She now also has a felt witchy hat. It needs a press and maybe some wire to hold its shape, but size wise it's good. The top was freehand cut, only because I was limited to an off-cut of felt I had on hand. It's shorter at the front and dips down at the back....

Now she just needs a tunic.... Do I go simple or set in sleeves?? Probably try simple first, and see what happens...

Halloween Witchy-poo...

There has been a lot of talk on the forums lately on Halloween challenges - hats, witches, costumes, etc - so here is my take... So far, so good!

My witchy-poo is light hearted and happy. She has stripey legs and will, at some point, have painted shoes (like my puppy..) in red or black, and some kind if robe and hat. The hair piece is just a leftover strip from my "goth" girl, before I changed her entire face, but I will not use that wool because it leaves fluff everywhere!! Eyelashes are not yet attached, but I like the thicker version on her. She also has stitched wrists, elbows and knees and stitched in arms, so she is securely attached together. Just realised she doesn't have her highlights in her eyes! Will do that now!! Wondered why she wasn't sparkling... LOL!

Now, off to check my stash for something for her to wear! Oh, and some hair, of course....

Another bag...

Ages ago I bought this sample piece that someone made (and clearly gave up on!) which I thought might make an interesting bag...

It was all done with visoflix and the animals are machine embroidered. Firstly, I raw edge stitched the trees and grass, as it was only ironed on and would not have lasted very long otherwise.

I then squared it up and trimmed some off the top for handles, but I didn't want to take off too much. This turned out to be a bad idea! As the top was on the selvage, I had to make a big seam to get rid of that white strip, and I only allowed the handle pieces to be 3cm wide finished, so looked too thin for the size of the bag! I need a rethink on this one. May have to go to Spotlight tomorrow and try and match up some blue or maybe a contrast? Let's see what the have to offer....

The bag has now been sewn, but it needs something, maybe in the sky? A balloon, a bird, a cloud?? Now that you can only see half, it feels is a bit unbalanced. Those trees definitely need some fruit or berries, or something to liven them up, too....

Mustache done!

Although it definitely not show quality!!

My machine decided it was going to skip stitches all over the place! I tried the walking foot, with no success, tension adjustments didn't help, nor did a new needle! It can't possibly need another service?  Grrrr......

I used a remnant of wadding that I already had, but it was a polyester that was pretty uneven and too springy for my liking. Referring back to the above issue, I wonder if this was another factor in the stitches skipping??

Anyhow, here it is!! Finished size 85cm x 75cm. The backing is a nod to famous mustache wearer....

A favourite meme of mine :

All about the 'stache...

Mustaches seem to be big thing right now... or maybe I am a little late onto the bandwagon?

Inspired by some quilts I had seen online, I dug out some tartan/checks/plaids and I paired them with some matching plains, drew a 'stache design on some visoflix and used the scraps to put some random coloured scraps, raw edge stitched and this is where I'm at:

It's not going to be a terribly large quilt - the base squares are only 12cm square - but a quickie to design and sew! All the rows are ready to go together, but that's a job for tomorrow...

A couple of distractions...

Since I'm on hols, I have plans to do "house stuff".....

But today was the calm before the storm. Tomorrow is going to be DIRTY! And by dirty, I mean digging in the dirt... ;)  I decided the back lawn was beyond fixing, so it's all coming out. Bin ordered, turf cutter booked, ute borrowed, all good so far......

But today I did some sewing! Found some remnant curtain fabric I bought, and with 3metres at my disposal, I managed to make 5x rather large bags! It had a cute all-over bear print that matched at the sides, hence the extra width, although I bet no one notices, but I will know the pattern matches at the sides....

Also a piece of Thomas the Tank Engine made it six for the day....
