Lazy weekend....

Very little productivity in my house this weekend... Not enough motivation...

However, I did paint a new face - a puppy this time. I found some furry spot (an old car seat cover, I think - waste not... LOL!) so he's a white doggie with black splotches. Once again, I had no idea where I was going when I started to paint, but I think he's going to be fine...

Ears are next, hopefully I can get them in proportion! I was hoping not to have to hand sew them again, but it will most likely be the best way to go. So many more decisions to make this time around! Not sure why that is?

Kitty spent the weekend at work! I forgot to bring her home after a show and tell on Friday, but I'm sure she's fine with TRG Bear to keep her safe, Western Power bear keeping the lights on and SO Ted putting out all the fires! Have to bring Doris home for repair - her leg fell off! It's ok, though, cause the others have also...

Anyway, as a final pic, here are my original sketches for both kitty and puppy together. Only simple line drawings, but all my own work, and I'm very proud of them. I have another couple of sketches of animals that will be next on the list - all will be revealed at a later date...

MUST DO THE BRIDE BEAR!! Stop procrastinating, and do it already!!! Too many other distractions.. I am taking Wednesday as annual leave from work is I can go to the Craft and Quilt Fair, so that's not going to help... At least I now know the colour of the bridesmaids, so groom bear can finally be finished. So do it, already! Yikes!! :)

Hexies!

I had some leftover strips of the cute marine print I used on the Wonky Crosses quilt, and realised that it was a repeat pattern and I've wanted to try the triangle hexagons for ages so I thought why not?? It was a scrap piece anyway, so nothing to lose!

These were the first results! I was originally going to put them together but each hex needed to standout on its own, so after some thought, I decided to include a border between the blocks. My head just about exploded trying to figure out the math!! I had seen them done with a seam on the horizontal (which is why the are still in halves!) but it was just not making sense!! Decided instead to tackle Y seams. These turned out to be easier than I thought!

With accurate measurements, they are easy as pie! Just remember to stop on the seam allowance, or you can get into trouble. Not that I'm saying I made zero mistakes! There are a couple of wrinkles that need to be steamed out, but considering how many I had to do, there aren't that many overall....

So this is where it stands right now. As for the gaps.... who knows??

Maybe filling with just white and the green contrast border? I will need to live with it for a bit before I make a final decision...

Happy Mothers Day to all the mums out there, especially my own crafty mum!!!!! Can't wait to show her the final product. She taught me everything I know, and I value her opinion on everything! Luv ya, mum!!

Wonky Crosses

I've wanted to make one of these for ages!

Many that I have seen are very busy, very random - mine is not so much....

I had some white/green/red fabric with cute nautical animals on it, so I matched the colours and cut out 3 squares of each, plus some strips, for a total of 12 blocks, each with a different combination of fabrics. I cut one way, added the strip, then cut the opposite way and added another strip. Once it was squared up, I worked on the layout, added a border and binding, and the rest is history, as they say!

The backing is the nautical fabric and the batting is a piece of flannelette. Finished size 60cm x 45cm.

Quick and easy! Started about lunchtime, finished about 7pm.

Kitty's new clothes...

So, I toyed with some fabrics, and some styles, and decided she was not to wear a dress! It looked totally weird!! She is a tomboy (tomcat??) and so needed shorts of some kind.

Looked at denim, but it didn't work with the colour of the cat, but found some corduroy in the same range. Was going to bind it, but decided to fully line it instead. This made the finishing so much easier!

I added a pocket and a buttonhole for her tail to poke out, and left it a little on the large side. There is still something missing, perhaps a scarf or something?? For now, I'm calling her finished.....

UPDATED : I've added a bell around her neck! Now, she's done!!

Pussy cat, pussy cat, where have you been??

She's been to the sewing room, but still waiting on some clothes!!

How do you dress a cat/human hybrid?? I have no clue!! And so, she waits.....
